About Us

Craft Afrika is a social enterprise that provides holistic support to entrepreneurs in the craft sector.
Founded in 2012, the organization was responding to the need of sustainable self employment within the creative economy, and specifically, the craft sector.
Hundreds of urban youth are turning to their creative talents to earn a living. However, lacking the business skills, resources, information and networks necessary to run a profitable business, many trudge on in the misery of struggle or give up altogether.

What we do
Although we strive to provide holistic support to craftpreneurs, we focus on two main areas:

1.Business skills training
We run business training programs based on a curriculum specifically tailored for the craft sector. Our incubation program - Craft Enterprise Incubation Program or CEIP, runs for three and a half months and provides participants with a critical understanding of how the sector works.
The course utilizes experiential learning, where theory becomes practice in real time. We have recently completed our pilot program and are in the process of preparing for our second intake come 2014.
Students exiting from the program are paired up with mentors who continue to provide support, guidance and advice. The program runs for six months and is highly structured, allowing for a mutually beneficial relationship between mentor and mentee.

2. Market services
Without a doubt, market access is the biggest challenge for craftpreneurs. We endeavor to connect artisans to buyers through our partner retail shops Goodies and African Heritage as well as through craft fairs such as Bizarre Bazaar- one of the biggest bi annual events in the region. We are always on the look out for opportunities- local, regional and international- that allow craftpreneurs to access profitable markets for their products.
